Using variables in questions for Service Review Assessment (Community)
A variable is a piece of text which changes dynamically. For the Service Review (Community) survey, you can use variables in questions so participants can see the name of the service they're providing feedback on, like Aquatics & Recreation.
Here's how to set them up and use them:
- Select Demographics from the left menu.
- Check that you have a demographic category which contains a list of your council's services. If you don't have one, you can create it by selecting Create new demographic.
- Create your Service Review Assessment (Community) survey. When you get to the Questions step, look for any questions that contain [SERVICE NAME].
- Select the question with [SERVICE NAME] in it. This will expand the question and you'll see an Insert Variable dropdown to the right. Select the demographic from the list that contains the names of your council's services. In this example, it's Council Service.
- It will automatically be added to the end of your question. Cut and paste it to the correct location in the question. Remember it should replace [SERVICE NAME].
- When you get to the Demographic step, you will now see the Council Service demographic is locked. As it is used in your survey questions, it will be included by default as a self-select demographic. A self-select demographic is a demographic the participant chooses at the start of the survey. In this situation, when they take the survey, they'll be asked which service they're providing feedback on. What they select will then be pulled through to the questions.
- Make sure to preview when you get to the Publish & Overview step to ensure your variables are working!
