How to communicate survey confidentiality to participants

If you're running a confidential survey, this will be communicated by default on the:

  • invitation
  • reminder
  • welcome page.

Here is an example of the content participants will see. You can also see this when previewing your survey.

Participants can also access an FAQ page on the footer of their survey, which goes into detail on questions like:

  • I have a unique link to access the survey. Can this be used to identify my answers?
  • Why do you need my demographic information?
  • Will leaving comments identify me?

Here is how the FAQ displays in the survey for desktop:

Adding a confidentiality statement to your communications

If you'd like to add an additional statement around confidentiality to your survey communications, here is an example you can use:

This survey is confidential. Your answers can’t be traced back to you, so you can feel comfortable sharing your honest opinions.

To keep your identity safe, AskYourTeam applies reporting thresholds. Every survey report must include responses from at least 3 to 5 participants (depending on the survey settings). Reports can't be generated for a single person.

Just keep in mind that if you choose to leave comments, avoid including details that could identify you — this helps ensure your responses remain confidential.

Confidentiality and serious safety concerns

In rare cases involving serious safety concerns (e.g. potential risk to the participant or someone else) AskYourTeam's Trust & Safety Team may need to identify the participant. This is only done in critical situations, in line with our Privacy Policy.
