How the Agree-Disagree scale works

Your survey might contain a mix of different question formats.

For example:

  • Agree-Disagree scale: Select an answer based on how strongly you agree or disagree with a statement.

  • 0 to 10 scale: Select a score from 0 to 10 (0 is the lowest, 10 is the highest) in response to a statement.

  • Yes/No: Select a single answer from two options.

  • Multi-choice: Select one or more answers from a list.

  • Matrix: Select one answer per row in a table format.

  • Free text: Type your answer in your own words.

The most common question format used in AskYourTeam surveys is the Agree-Disagree scale. So let's learn more about it.

What answers can you choose from?

For Agree-Disagree questions, you'll be shown a statement and then select how much you agree or disagree with that statement.

We provide a 6-point scale represented by facial expressions and words for you to select your answer from (pictured above).

From left to right, the answers you can select from are:

  • Strongly Disagree

  • Disagree

  • Somewhat Disagree

  • Somewhat Agree

  • Agree

  • Strongly Agree

Why is there no neutral option?

AskYourTeam doesn't include a neutral option, as the purpose of our system is to encourage feedback, positive or negative. However, if you are unsure of how to answer the question, you can select 'Don't know'.

Why are the questions framed positively?

Some people believe that writing questions or statements in a positive way might bias survey results. Actually, the opposite is true!

Best practice survey design is to frame each question as an ideal state. This makes the survey experience consistent and easier to understand, with less confusion.
