What is a public survey?

A public survey generates a link that can be shared through your website, marketing or social media. This allows surveys to be created to gather feedback from wider groups of people where their contact and demographic information is not known.

How do I generate a public link?

To generate a public link that can be shared:

  1. Go to Surveys and find the survey you want to generate a public link for.

  2. Select the Edit option.

  3. Go to the Settings tab.

  4. Turn on the Generate public link toggle.

  5. Copy the link to share with others.

Why are self-select demographics recommended?

We recommend demographic information is gathered from participants using self-select demographics to enable greater reporting and analysis for public surveys.

To enable self-select demographics:

  1. When creating the survey, on the Participants and Demographics page

  2. Expand Add demographics

  3. Select the applicable demographic categories

  4. Toggle Invisible to Self Select

NOTE: Self select demographics are mandatory and cannot be skipped.

Participants that take this survey through the public link will have the name Anonymous Respondent and demographic information gathered from unknown respondents will be reflected next to the participant's record under Participants when managing the survey.

How does a public survey affect my participant limit?

Your participant limit is how many people that can participate in your survey. Your AskYourTeam subscription is based on this number.

Using a public link won't affect how your participant limit works.

For example, if your participant limit is 2,000. You can still only survey up to 2,000 participants.

This number can be made up of:

  • known participants only: people added to the survey through the participant library

  • unknown participants only: people that access the survey through a public link

  • a mix of both known and unknown participants.

How do I know if someone has taken the survey through the public link?

Participants that take the survey through the public link will appear under Participants when managing the survey, with the name Anonymous Respondent to indicate that these participants are unknown.

If self select demographics were enabled, each Anonymous Respondent will have their associated demographics listed against their record.
