Introduction to public surveys and public links

A public survey generates a link that can be shared through your website, marketing or social media. This allows surveys to be created to gather feedback from wider groups of people where their contact and demographic information is not known.

How do I generate a public link?

To generate a public link that can be shared:

  1. Go to Surveys and find the survey you want to generate a public link for.
  2. Select the Edit option.
  3. Go to the Settings tab.
  4. Turn on the Generate public link toggle.
  5. Copy the link to share with others.

Why are self-select demographics recommended?

We recommend demographic information is gathered from participants using self-select demographics to enable greater reporting and analysis for public surveys.

To enable self-select demographics:

  1. When creating the survey, on the Participants and Demographics page
  2. Expand Add demographics
  3. Select the applicable demographic categories
  4. Toggle Invisible to Self Select. Self select demographics are mandatory and cannot be skipped.

Participants who take this survey through the public link will have the name Anonymous Respondent in the AskYourTeam system. You'll see this in the participant's step when managing the survey along with any self-selected demographic information.

How does a public survey affect my participant limit?

Your participant limit is how many people that can participate in your survey. Your AskYourTeam subscription is based on this number.

Using a public link won't affect how your participant limit works.

For example, if your participant limit is 2,000. You can still only survey up to 2,000 participants.

This number can be made up of:

  • known participants only: people added to the survey through the participant library
  • unknown participants only: people that access the survey through a public link
  • a mix of both known and unknown participants.
