What is a protected demographic?
A protected demographic is a demographic with limited editing options. They are only relevant to Service Review surveys.
When a demographic is protected, you can't:
- update the demographic category name
- update the survey display name
- update a demographic option name
- change the demographic to multi-select
- delete the demographic category
- delete a demographic option.
However, you can still add demographic options and set the demographic as invisible/self-select. For Service Reviews we recommend demographics should be self-select for the Community survey and invisible for the Staff survey.
Editing is limited to ensure changes are not accidentally made that will interfere with the survey-taking experience or reporting data.
How does a demographic become protected?
A demographic becomes protected if it is used:
- in your survey question(s)
- as a way to select participants for your survey
- in survey communications.
How can you tell if a demographic is protected?
When browsing your demographic library: The demographic name will be greyed out; a lock icon and the word 'Protected' will also show.
When creating or editing a survey: A protected demographic will be selected but greyed out. When you hover over it, a tooltip will show explaining why it can't excluded from your survey.
How do I remove the protected status from a demographic?
To remove the protected status from a demographic you would need to:
- remove it from all questions using it, and/or
- deselect it as the demographic used to add participants in the Service Reviews (Staff) survey.
