Pre-survey checklist

Before you create a survey, we recommend you take some time to review our pre-survey checklist to ensure you're set up for success:

  • IT checks: Ensure that all IT checks have been completed, including testing that important survey communications don't end up in spam folders and resolving any firewall issues.
  • Survey best practice: Take a look at our guide Survey Best Practice for more information on how to get the best out of your survey and provide the best experience for participants.
  • Survey details: Think about what might be an appropriate name for your survey, when you want to set it live and how long you want it to be active.
  • Participants: Decide where you will get your list of participants from. Will this be exported from an HRIS or payroll system? You will need to populate your Participant Library with participants names, emails or mobile phone numbers (or neither if using passcodes), and any demographic information. Set a participation rate you'd like to aim for.
  • Demographics: What demographics will you use to support reporting?
  • Questions: What questions do you need to ask? Will you use AskYourTeam Agree-Disagree questions and/or custom questions?
  • Preview survey: Who needs to preview the survey before it goes live? This is a great way to check that all the information included in the survey and supporting communications is correct.
  • Communications: What pre-survey communications need to go out to leaders and the wider team? We recommend raising awareness of the survey with a good internal communication plan. Create a buzz in the team, or set incentives to help meet your participation target.
  • Report Viewers: Who needs to view reports? Think about who should view the reports once the survey has closed and what demographic information each Report Viewer should have access to.
  • Timeline: Set and share a timeline with leaders and the wider team to include when:
    • insights will be shared
    • action planning will happen
    • and when you plan to retest to measure your progress.
