What are AskYourTeam default demographics?

Default demographics are automatically included in your account, giving you a starting point for filtering survey reports by specific groups. This allows you to explore, break down, and compare responses, particularly in the Heatmap Report.

There are four default demographics:

  • Age (Recommended)
  • Length of Service (Recommended)
  • Level (Recommended)
  • Gender

Some also appear with a Recommended label. Recommended demographics are linked to specific features and reports within AskYourTeam. We suggest using them where possible to ensure you get the most out of the platform.

What you can't do with default demographics

Default demographics have a few restrictions to help keep your data structured and working correctly in features like reports:

  • You can’t delete them from your library
  • You can’t edit their options, except for Gender.
  • You can’t import or create custom demographic categories using the same names.

Example:

If you want to use different age ranges than those included in AskYourTeam's Age demographic category, you would need to create your own one and call it a different name, like 'Age range'.

Special behaviour for recommended demographics

Some default demographics include built-in functionality:

  • Age and Length of Service are calculated automatically based on the data in your participant library.

Example:

If a participant was previously in the 18–25 age group, they will automatically move to the 26–35 group after their birthday.

  • Level is used in specific reports such as the Alignment Report, which compares results between groups like Executives and Non-Executives. If you plan to use these reports, it’s important to include this demographic.
