How to add an image to your question
Adding an image with a survey question can boost engagement, improve understanding, and help you gather feedback on visual content — not just written words.
For example:
- proposed materials or assets (like branding or signage) so that future communications are effective and accessible.
- the use of spaces (like parks, community spaces) so that the final design considers a range of perspectives.
Adding an image
You can add an image to the following question types in AskYourTeam:
- Agree/Disagree
- Yes/No
- 0 to 10
- Multichoice (as well as all the individual choices within the question)
- Free-text
Images can be added at Step 3: Questions when creating or editing a survey.
They must be:
- .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, or .png
- under 20MB
For best results, we also recommend:
- images have a height of at least 600px
- text is used sparingly and is made as large as possible for readability.
To add an image to a question in your survey:
- Select the question you want to add an image to.
- Select Add image to the right of your question or answer option (for multi-choice questions).
- Upload your image.
- Add your alt-text.
- Select Save.
💡Adding images to multi-choice answer options? You will need to add images to all answer options for the question. You can't have a mix of answer options with and without images.
Deleting an image
To delete an image:
- Select Delete to the right of your question or the answer option (for multi-choice questions). This will launch a modal asking you to confirm the action.
- Select Delete image.
Will my image be resized?
Yes, if the image height is more than 200px, it will be automatically resized. The width will adjust proportionally to maintain the correct aspect ratio.
What is alt-text, and why do I need to enter it for my image?
Alt-text (short for alternative-text) is a short description of an image that helps people who can't see it understand what it shows. For example, people who are blind or have low vision and use screen readers, or people with slow internet connections that struggle to load images. It makes your survey-taking experience more inclusive and helps your organisation meet accessibility compliance standards.
Here is an example of good alt-text for the image shown below:
Banner with the message “Small actions make a big difference. Give your food scraps a second chance.” Illustrated food scraps like a banana peel and apple core fall into a wooden compost bin filled with organic waste.
How can I preview my image?
You can preview your image in two ways:
- by selecting the View image icon next to the question or options (for multi-choice questions) when creating your survey. This will pop up a thumbnail of the image you uploaded.
- by previewing your survey. This will show you the image in context as participants will see it.
Do images show in the reports and report exports?
No, images won't show in reports or report exports.
